Specialist Decoration Services

Our specialist decorators have a vast experience in interior and exterior decoration and an understanding of the specific requirements demanded by historic buildings. John Lambert (North West) Ltd staff have worked on many listed buildings including cathedrals, churches, stately homes, monuments and National Trust properties.

Specialist decorative finishes include gilding with gold and silver leaf, traditional limewashing, painting with professional products such as linseed oil, lead and mineral based paints, decorative stencilling (for example on organ pipes), specialist wall paper hanging and hand painted furniture and kitchens. The varnishing and polishing of internal woodwork can be carried out and joinery repairs using new timber can be varnished and colour matched to blend with historic timbers. Railings, gates, rainwater goods and structural and decorative metalwork can all be carefully stripped, restored and repainted to increase their longevity and revitalise the exterior of the building.

The stripping of all types of paint from all types of different surfaces is also undertaken either in preparation for repainting or to expose the patina of the original substrate. Removing layers of paint without damaging delicate surfaces such as carved wood or stone, or plaster mouldings is particularly beneficial, as it often reveals the intricacies of the original detail. Specialist redecoration and regilding of decorative details using traditional styles, colours and materials can bring a room back to life with the architect’s original vision.

John Lambert (North West) Ltd also undertake the conservation and restoration of monuments and memorials, crests, coats of arms and plaques in materials such as bronze, brass, stone, terracotta and ceramics. Committed to quality workmanship and attention to detail we aim to create a high quality and long lasting finish.
